I guess it should start installing the update or restart etc.?

I've been affected by this update failure problem. I've recently discovered the cause (at least for me) which others may wish to try for themselves. I find that if my browser is open and YouTube videos are open in a window (such that Adobe's buggy Flash player is active), then this breaks the updater (which apparently waits until some background programs are closed, but with the Flash problem, it never will). As a work around, I close the browser and thus all of the Adobe-related problems, and the installer will work fine for me.
