a weird problem

Hi Xperts.

I have a strange problem in XDP6. Not sure if it's the same in XX5.

If you type something and then select it and try and resize it using the corner control handles (so that the proportions remain the same with the aspect ratios locked) then the resizing proportions do not remain the same.

The horizontal and vertical proportions are not what they should be.

You will see in the picture attached that the smaller writing 18pt in this case, when resized using the control handles, is out of proportion.

I've tried all sorts of things - different fonts and different wording and the real annoying thing is, that sometimes it works fine. I wish I could say that it does this with particular letters or when double letters are used.
When it does work properly, I then change the lettering and then it starts going wrong again.

That's really weird. I just tried it and it works fine for me. You are sure the padlock icon is in the down position?

I can assure you that the padlock is in the down position - as per the attached picture.

Again to demonstrate the problem, all I did was to copy the original text and then tried to resize the bottom one.
I could have resized the first one and the result would have been the same.

I just tried your example in all three text modes (line, column, text area). The only way I could duplicate your result was to resize with the padlock up. Since your padlock is down, try rebooting and see if that makes a difference.

Hi Rik,

Are you doing this scale in a web document? That is a document with the "Show Windows Compatible Text Lengths" switch set? (See Options dialog, General tab.)

None of the items in 'Document Editing' are checked (selected).

I don't use Xara for web site/development - apart from doing the drawings that I will be using in a web site.

I have just tried the resize thing on another PC and worryingly, it does the same.

Now I am really getting annoyed. Apologies if that sounds a bit strong but I would not expect this problem in Xara, let alone on two different computers.
One using Windows XP Pro and the other using Windows 7.

I am attaching my file to see if you open it, whether you see the problem?
In case when you open the file all seems perfect, I've also included a print screen.

I see the problem Rik but do not know why it is happening. The only way I can cause the aspect ratio to change is to use the Selector Tool and drag one of the horizontal or vertical resizing handles.

A quick way to correct the problem is to make the aspect ratio 100. See attached images.
