The Xara EPS export (and some other exported formats) ignores the selected objects and always exports all objects in a Xara drawing EVEN those that are off the page area or on non-visible and/or non-editable or background layer.

The resulting EPS file may not show the objects on a non-visible layer BUT the BOUNDING FRAME fo the EPS graphic is equivalent to the extents of the objects in the parent Xara file. This becomes a real hassle when the EPS file is imported into another application.

** Is it at all possible for the relevant export dialogs to have a "Selected Objects Only" checkbox, PLEASE? **

    Me too!!

I just tried to export a grapic in .cdr version 7 from Draw 12 and guess what, you guessed it, I guess the drawing needs to be saved as an even older version. That SUX!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

I hope that Charles is going to update these import and export filters BIG TIME in this update, this is just getting plain ole' BAD!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

PS: Wish there was a way to create an import filter that would allow for DrawPlus drawings to be imported into XaraX! The file extention is called .Dpp Untill XaraX catches up in a few more areas DrawPlus can create some interesting shapes that XaraX can't (nor Draw12) and it would be great to be able to import them. WMF works OK but if there is complicated color info then the file is imported ungroupable and then it's just a bunch of shapes. So only solid colors and NO effects will be imported correctly. If any effects are applied then it's saved as a WMF bitmap instead. So that's not very useful if you want the shape to retain it's editability!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Just an idea! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

    Ram:

Unfortunately, I think that is a Corel issue. Nothing Charles can do about it. Corel wanted to keep their CDR format from getting reverse engineered (hacked) so they came up with CMX. My experience with other programs that can/could import CDR is that the CDR version was 5 (guessing) or less.

    Thanks John,

You know I always friggin forget about the CMX format. It worked like a charm but interestingly enough if you want to export a more complicated file, text and all, EACH object needs to be on it's own layer!

Thanks for the reminder John!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    Yet another Workaround

select the objects you want to export, CTRL-C, to copy, CTRL-N for new document, and CTRL-V to paste.

Then export. When you're done close the new document and don't save as you already have it all in your original document.

As far as a warning, this is all I can think of doing, but be very aware of your selections and various layer management as you may or may not include/exclude objects unintentionally.

I had this problem while I was drawing font characters in Xara ; sometimes I forgot to copy and paste some separated character into a new document, ... and you guess what happened when I tried to import this character in Fontographer afterwards. I got the whole set in one !!!

    kindly,
    ivan

    Certain export filters.

I have found this problem with the AI export filter.

The first clue is usually when there is no Selected Objects option.

I just do what has been suggested here and copy and paste the selection to be exported onto a new page. It's a bit of a problem, but not a major one.

    Yeh,

I had been cutting out the unwanted objects, export to .eps, Ctrl-Zing them back in ... but, of course, I get in a hurry and forget the last step before I save the file.

Pasteing to a new file sounds like a better stategy except, I suppose, if dealing with lots of objects and/or bitmaps.
