Can This Be Done In Xara, Are there any tutorials available?

I think I was trying to say is that since XDP6 arrived, I've been using line profiles more and that has become more fun.

Ok, sure Xara is a vector based program, but I have a thread in this board called "Fantasy Maps created in Xara Xtreme" - granted its not using Designer 6, rather its predecessor, but most people assume I am using Photoshop or GIMP to create my maps, and all of it (all of it) is created in Xara. Sometimes I include other elements not created in Xara, but by in large most of my maps are created exclusively in Xara.

Most people in my mind have a very false idea on what kind of graphics are created in a vector app like Xara, and in your challenge above, I could use another program, but why, since its so easily done in Xara.

Really it's down to what you are most comfortable with - I would never recommend another program to do what you ask. Stick with Xara is easier, and faster than most image editors due to workflow and memory managment.

I think that the vast majority of poster designers are using vector graphics apps. Although still a lumbering giant, the industry leader Illustrator has come a long way in the last decade. But only the very cool use Xara

it is more straightforward in version 6 now that line profiles live-drag, so they are maybe more likely to get used...
