can't open .xar file in XaraXtreme4

I've tried using the utility ExpandXar but I'm not sure I'm putting into command prompt correctly because it gets just so far and then I get an error message.
Can anyone walk me through this, step by step, please?
I'm not sure when to put a space and when to use lowercase or uppercase, or if that even makes a difference.
Thank you for any help anyone can offer. It's driving me nuts.

syntax as attached - where 'test.xar' is the file to be tested and 'out.xar' is the name you want for the rebuilt file

note you must put the file type in - ie the '.xar' - AFAIK it is not case sensitive

EDIT: both the program and the file to be rebuilt [expanded] must be in the same directory - in this case C:\

if you get an error message when the syntax is right - maybe it cannot complete - a screen shot would be useful in this case

There's a 'front-end' utility that makes it easier for novices - like me

See the screen shot: The corrupt file is located in D:\MyGraFX\XaraXtreme4 folder and it's named snowman10.xar. The program is in the same folder. As you can see, it says it failed to import. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. And thank you for your help.

Hello neodist. As you can see, I even tried the front end utility, but it still will not open. I'd attach the xar file if possible, and if someone might want to try it.
I'm about ready to call it quits on this one. It's not worth all this trouble.

Here is the screen shot of expandFE. It "says" there were no errors, yet the file will still not open. I've tried renaming it too.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Cheryl there doesn't seem to be a problem with your entering the DOS command or using the windows front end application.

It appears that your file is corrupt and cannot be read by expandxar.exe

Can you attach your file to a post here at TG?

If you do not wish to attach your file, perhaps you could open a support ticket and provide the file to Xara Support. http://support.xara.com

Soquili...hello. I'm not sure how to attach a xar file, but I'll try. I just saw there are other error messages popping up now when trying to open other files. The files do open OK, but it says there was a problem sending the command...etc. I'm uninstalling the program and going to reinstall.snowman10.xar

Oh well. I uninstalled and re-installed and that file still will not open. Not worth the trouble any longer. Thank you for your help and suggestions. One more thing, now that I have installed Xara again, it says it's a trial and won't take my activation code. ?
