can't open .xar file in XaraXtreme4

Cheryl, your snowman2.xar file opens for me in XXP3.2 (with error that it was created in a later version, XXP4 (no errors), XXP5 (no errors), and XDP6 (no errors). On the other hand, the snowman10.xar has serious issues as it won't open with XXP3.2 and XXP4. Also note that while the snowman2 file is 1,270 KB in size, the snowman10 file is only 93 KB. Obviously there is a big chunk of the file missing. While I could get the snowman10 file to open with XXP5 and XDP6 there are many graphic elements missing and it gives me grief about the following live effects not being installed on my computer; Blast..., Carve..., Constellation..., and Inner Bevel... I suggest you quit messing about with the snowman10 file and revert to a previously saved version and continue working on the drawing from that point. Remember to save often, especially when incorporating a lot of live effects into one of your drawings.

You file opens without any errors on my machine.

I'm running Vista Ultimate and Xara Designer Pro 6.


I can also open your file using Xara Xtreme Pro 4.

So, you were able to open the correct file? I accidentally uploaded snowman2.xar first, but the one that I can't open is snowman10.xar. Is that the one you were able to open? If so, why can't I?

Thank you everyone for your help and advice. As I said, snowman2 was accidentally uploaded here as it was a jpg I exported from my original snowman10 and then brought back into the program to add the text. Snowman10.xar is the original file, created in XX4 and can no longer be opened on my computer. Windows 7, Professional, 64 bit. I'm just going to have to start over. Thank you all again.

Cheryl, give the attached file a try and see what you can do with it. I opened your snowman10 file in XDP6 and saved it, then I reopened it in XXP4 and resaved it for you.

I can't believe it, but it happened again! Another XAR file that I just created yesterday after working for hours on a logo for a client and now I can't open the file in Xara Xtreme 4. Here is the error message: Failed to read XAR file
(Failed to handle record 356 4126) But what does it mean and why is this happening? This is the second time this has happened and it never happened until about a month or so ago.

Cheryl are you using many Live Effects?

Did you obtain a new Live Effect plug-in about the time you noticed this problem?
