Ohhhhh! Nice closeup of a dragonfly!! Actually, it's a good picture too!! You can see a spider web in the lower left corner, which almost makes me think the dragonfly was getting ready for lunch
I like how you can even see the glimmer of sun on the dragonfly's eye and the tip of his wing. What a great shot!!!
Ok...so I got a bit carried away by the composition of the picture. Rich did a perfect job of explaining macro mode though. It's typically used for closeups of insects, flowers, sometimes animals, etc. (Can you tell I'm a nature girl!) This way (at least it's how my camera works) you can stay a good distance away from your subject while getting an excellent closeup shot of it. The benefit, is you don't risk disturbing your subject (if photographing wildlife or insects), yet you can still get a good picture.
