    Default is there an option to draw shapes without them being solid?

    like in older versions of xara? i notice that shapes fill automatically now.

    Before you start drawing click the no fill swatch and choose 'set' from the popup

    But if you do this, you may want to add an outline so you can see the object.

    but you cant set it permanent. every new line and connection you draw after setting no fill automatically resets the fill. if im drawing with a tablet, im forced to turn on sketch mode. however, everytime i want to draw a new shape xara automaticly assumes that i want to fill it. is my only option to turn on sketchmode?

    Works for me Stealth. It will only change the settings if you fill a shape and you've got "Give New Objects Most Recent Attribute" selected [see attached]

    @Gary - sorry, thought that was obvious if there's no fill
