You can use vector shapes in PS as well as bitmap shapes and it sounds that you have an older version of PS. Half way down your tools menu you have the vector tools and if you select the blob shape that will allow you to use custom shapes. Now it looks to me that you are very new to PS and I would say to you have a look at the help files that come with the programme and find out about vector shapes and how to use them. Then go back to the tut from Veerle and have a go at that. Then build up to your drawing that you want to do which use a a tile as its background and masks to get that effect.
    Design is thinking made visual.

How will I make a certain image my background

    for example

    this is my background
    http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...g?t=1278557797

and I would add this image

    http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...g?t=1278557798

and tile it to make it something like this

    http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...g?t=1278554808

instead of those dots, I will use the panda instead

I have used the Magic wand tool to select the white around the pandas head then invert the selection now you can use the move tool to just drag the head on to a layer with the background colour. Next use the rectangle selection to make just one bit of your pattern, then in the menu go to define pattern, jobs done. Study the images then I think it will click into place. Regards Rod.
