How to center object on page?

I imagine this answer will be very easy to you experienced users, but I can't figure it out. If I put, say, a square on a page and want it centered vertically and horizontally, what's the best way to do that? I've tried alignment, but since it's the only object on the page, it won't work.

There is a Page option in the Alignment menu.

Hmmm. I thought I had tried that and found it grayed out unless there were more than one object on a page. Seems to work now. Not sure what I was doing that it didn't work. Thank you!

It is grayed out until you select something and check Page.
