Default Anyone know how to do Lomo?

My daughter is big on this Lomo photo processing look.
I did a search and found that someone claims it can be done with Xara.
Can anyone explain how to do it?
Also, do I need a RAW picture image, or can it be done with a JPEG?

There are probably several ways to achieve the Lomo effect.

The attached image shows the original photo on the left and a simulated Lomo effect on the right. I can make a mini-tutorial of how it was accomplished if this meets your criteria for the Lomo effect.

Here is a quick tutorial on the lomo effect. It is very easy to do in Xara. As the lomo effect is basically simulating a photo produced with a vintage Russian made camera it can be easily done with any photo. For my tutorial I used a web cam shot. Of course a better picture will yield a better result.

OMG Bill, you look like one of them KGB guys in a 1950's "holiday in the Crimea" postcard!!!!

    (in other words, great effect!)

I found a Photoshop tutorial on how to do it and I can see from the above that there is no reason why you can't do exactly the same in Xara

    Thanks Frank.

Here is a mini-tutorial for the technique I used. It is based on a Photoshop tutorial

Thank you Bill and Anglize for the tutorial. I applied it on a picture of the real thing, The Lomo camera. I own a copy of the camera that brought the Lomo effect to the world and still aim to save the world from pixel pictures. I think I have never taken a single snapshot with it.
The picture was taken today with my Panasonic DMC-LZ2, released five years ago.
