original X1 movies?

When I click on Movies in Help, I get a message that a connection can't be made. I see the sticky above about videos, but which of those are the original 8 hours of movies that came with the program? I recall using them when I first got Xara.

Hi

xara x1 movies were installed from the CD

if this has not been done you will need to run the CD and install them

the message you got probably means they were not installed in which case the program would look to the xara site, but X1 movies are no longer available there AFAIK

Are the original CD movies available online for any of the newer versions that I would still be able to use with X1? I see a bunch of videos online but they don't look like the original CD ones for any version.

the current version, designer 6, is 5 versions on from X1 - and whilst the basics are broadly the same, in many ways it has changed a great deal

the current Xara movies [for xtreme/designer] are available here:

'The Internet', and 'Web Design' are not AFAIK relevant to X1
' Photos', 'Fills', Transparency, 'Text', 'Lines and shapes' are areas where there have been significant changes
it is always possible that there are some differences in the others too

if you find there are things that you cannot get to work you can always ask here


as for the videos out on youtube etc made by users, some will state which version they were made for/with, and some don't - again if you have queries about something specific you can always ask here

Strange, but I get a 201 error "unable to load clip or stream..."for any video I try. Also, clicking on Download Direct Link under the screen brings up a "Page Not Found" error.

I'm getting the 'page not found' too

as for watching them - I see you are in Canada, so it might be you need to switch to Xara's North American site to watch them ?

I am troubleshooting this with Xara Support. If I get a solution, I'll post it. Thanks.

I'm sure that it will be possible - Xara still sell Xara X1 on Ebay as a download-only product, new users must be able to see the videos some how given that they don't have a CD

Movies are not mentioned in the blurb however [though full HTML help is]

so it's equally possible that feature is no longer supported


[BTW: the earlier xara movies were in camtasia format

the CD installed camtasia player - as well as the movies - in order to play them

so if you find any X1 movies you would on that basis need camtasia player, or alternatively the codec [in realplayer for example], to play them ]
