    Question Trouble Publising

    Hi,

I am having trouble publishing my website via Xara, it keeps on timing out. I have double checked my details for upload and they are all correct. But If I use Filezilla it works fine, so I am not sure what I need to do to make Zara upload the files.
    Please help

    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi Ricey.

Not sure why that would be but you are not the first one to report such a problem.

I would start from scratch and see if you can make it work, sometimes it can be something as simple as having an extra space after the ftp address or after or before the password and use ID.

And if it still does not work, then use Filezilla. But my guess is if you start from scratch, and watch those extra spaces, you'll be in business.

    Hi gwpriester,

Still can't publish via xara, but can publish using FileZilla.

The server that I'm trying to upload to uses "Active" transfer mode.

So what mode does xara use, and how can I change it?

I prefer using xara to upload as it is easier and quick.

    Cheers

    Hi Steve,

Web Designer defaults to Auto Detect for FTP connection. This does not always obtain a good connection with some web hosts. Their FTP setup is not configured to provide the necessary response for Auto Detect to work.

If you are confident in editing the Windows Registry you can change the FTP default to Active by editing the following Registry Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\WebDesignerPremium \7.1\Options\Publish\FTPConnectionType and make the DWORD value 1.

If you are not using Web Designer Premium 7.1 change those to the name of your version and the version number that is within your Registry.

If you are not sure about editing the Registry you can click on the XaReg link in my signature that will take you to a thread on TG where you can download the last update to my program for making Xara Registry changes.

The attached image shows XaReg's FTP tab as it is running on my Vista machine. I have multiple versions of Xara applications installed.
