Default Xara to Illustrator paste size difference

When I copy paste a design from xara to illustrator (or to another design program), the object in illustrator is bigger then the original size in Xara. For example a 90mm width object becomes a 120mm scaled object. I always have to resize it back in illustrator.

Anyone knows how to fix this?

    Well I don't see this.
Can you give more details? Are you using vector shapes/drawings? Or bitmaps.
Perhaps there are dpi settings you are overlooking?

Does the same happen when you use pixel units?

A 400x400 pixel vector object drawn in Xtreme pastes into any other application at 400x400 for me.

I am using vector shapes and my page units are mm, not only to illustrator but also to for example sign software. When I use pixel units the copy is almost exact.

I don't have AI installed so I can't check, but I cannot repeat what you see even if I use mm units.

What happens if you export as PDF from Xtreme and open the file in AI?

    90mm to 120mm has a direct correlation to 96 dpi to 72 dpi (96/72=1.33333*90=120).

I would definitely be looking at the dpi settings. I suspect that Illustrator as a Adobe product is importing at 72 dpi.

Not sure why the others do it, but that probably depends on what the others are ...

illustrator still has its internal screen rendering size set at 72dpi

photoshop you have the option now of 96dpi [same as xtreme] but not AFAIK in illustrator

this probably explains it - as Keith indicated

EDIT - just to keep Steve happy: for dpi read ppi

Would it not really be quicker and more reliable if you exported your file as a PDF then opened it in AI as the size is fine. There maybe a few more steps but I have never found pasting works well from Xara even excluding the size change due res. change even the stroke width changes as well as size.

    I'd second that

copy paste can often be unreliable between different products - even when they are both from the same company... sometimes the changes can be subtle and not so easy to spot at first

    I'll third it of course
And I did ask RickX in post#4 about saving as PDF and opening in AI?
Perhaps he'll respond to this soon.

Thanks for your replies. yes exporting and importing works fine, but that process is much more time consuming when I have to do that XX times a day. I use illustrator or easysign to send files to a plotter (both have the size 'problem'), it is easy for me to copy & paste which is fast and works fine so far but it will be even more productive if the design matches the exact size as in Xara.

I will look further into changing the dpi/ppi settings but no luck so far

Even better will be if I can send the design directly to the cutter/plotter (summa) but I think that is to much to ask
