Haven't drawn anything in quite a while so lately, to get back into familiarity with Xtreme (in prep for purchasing Pro 6), I have been going thru lots of Gary's (most excellent) tutorials (thanks, Gary).
Gave this mp3 player a shot. I am using Pro 4 (not 5) so to compensate for not having the newer transparency tool I sliced the front piece and gave each section its own linear transparency.
Loved the tut about the bubbles (I think by Black Panther) so decided to add some of those too.

Thanks everyone for sharing your results.

Was this a fun tutorial? Judging by the number of images posted I would think so.

    Any others?

I just had to have another go.

Firstly, I wanted to try the 'Display OTF' font.

Secondly, I wanted to try and do what Harry had done. Put part of the logo in front of the MP3 player.

Thirdly, I wasn't happy with the logo having square edges.

    So, here is my V2.

Gary: You've hit upon a good one here.
Many have had a chance to tell others their taste in music as well as having a go at the tutorial.
Two birds and one stone... and all that!

    Brilliant!

All of your tutorials are fun, Gary. It's just that some are more fun than others!

Seriously, though, this was a fairly straightforward tutorial that was easy to follow. I had to throw in a few extra goodies to complicate my version of your sansa player.

Oh, and the band and song shown on my player aren't real (just like me). Just in case anyone decides to go looking for them/me.

    Good one,
    Harry

    Thanks Gary,

After 3 tries I've got most of it fairly close....have to experiment to get some of the effects to work better but overall a very nice tutorial. I think this is the first one I've completed that is a complete drawing of an item.

I've done short 'technique' style tutorials but not complete ones like this.

    Thanks again.....

    btw HayTray,

This seems straight forward when you know the interface well, but for me there were a few places to make me pause and think..let's me know just how talented the people on this site are..just need more practise, need more time to practise....this could get me truly hooked....

Don't despair, Ed. Practice will definitely make you better. I'm living proof of that. I suggest completing as many of Gary's Xara Xone tutorials as you can. There (still) aren't many of his tutorials that I've done that I haven't learned at least one new thing, a new technique, or a better way of accomplishing a task with Xara Xtreme. After your skills improve you'll actually be able to cut some steps out of the tutorial and arrive at the same result or add some steps to achieve a different (and better?) outcome.

Almost all of Gary's tutorials are fairly straightforward. If something in one of the Xara Xone tutorials appears incomplete or the instructions are confusing, Gary or someone else on TG is usually around to lend a hand or help get you through the step(s) that are tripping you up.

If you want a serious challenge try completing a tutorial made for Photoshop, CorelDraw, Inkscape, DrawPlus, The Gimp, or another raster/vector program using Xara Xtreme. You'll learn all kinds of things about Xara Xtreme that you've never imagined... yet.

Kudos to you for not giving up on the 'sansa Player' tutorial. What a difference a few tries have made from your first posting to your latest version.

    Keep at it,
    Harry

    Hi Harry,

    Thanks for the encouragement....

No despair here, just fun....I will do more tutorials as time permits. It seems that's the thing these days ....in our fast and hectic lifestyles time becomes the most precious of commodities.

You're right about things getting better with practise....I'll probably do this one a couple more times to clarify my mind on one or 2 of the techniques and then on to another tutorial.

I have tried tutorials on Photoshop in particular....and to be honest, it's ok if I never do another one on that beast. It's a beautiful program but the learning curve vs time is way too steep.....

Nope, think I'll stick with Xara....which incidently I got mainly for doing web pages but saw the possibilities of learning something new and exciting when I saw what people were doing with it graphically.

I actually can't believe I was able to almost duplicate what Gary created....never would have happened in PS.....
    Ed......:-)
