Ok if I make 2 animations and import them separately into flash I get generally the effect I'm looking for. But the quality is poor, as you can see the pixilation in the face of the logo. Do you know if this is correctable with flash? If I adjust the dpi, it automatically changes the width and height. Is this effect something that step animation will do? When I followed the directions in xara3d help for making step animation, it worked for making different faces, like 1,2,3 come up on each face of a spinning button. But not for imorting multiple shapes.

You wouldn't use Step to import multiple shapes unless you wanted them on separate pages.

If you want to import multiple shapes separately into a single page, you have to enable the cursor (a|b button). Import the first shape, and the cursor will move to its right. Importing another shape will cause it to appear where the cursor was, next to the first shape. Or you can import a shape then hit Return to put the cursor on the next line down (Xara3D was originally a text only application, so importing a shape is like importing a character).

If you have no cursor, importing a shape will replace all existing shapes on the page. But if you select one shape among several with the cursor, then only that shape will be replaced when importing another.

I'm not sure what the issue is with Flash, as I never use it, but exporting a Xara3d file to Flash does have some restrictions. The Xara3D help pages describe them.

GIF can only support 256 colours, so dithering takes place to simulate variations.
I think you have chosen 'Ordered' dithering type which will give you that cross-hatch effect.
Best to use 'Diffused' with an optimised palette.

SWF supports millions of colours (True color).

To export to swf(bitmap) with the best quality use the following options in the export window.
