Alright, I was able to get ahold of a better monitor which is capable of 1280x1024 screen resolution. So, I tried it out and not sure I like it or not! Should I try working with it because it offers better performance in the end and will give me a better product? Or does it not really matter. Is one size superior to the other? My poll is wondering what resolution you use and I'd like you to tell me any info which would be appropriate to this topic. Thanks a lot!

    Steve

My 17" DELL flat panel looks best at this resolution although I must confess there are times the text looks a little small http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

    ... I need to see those pixels... 1024 x 768...

I can run my monitor at much higher resolutions - no problem, but when it gets to me 3.45 AM... a lower resolution helps me keep my sanity.

    Hi Steve,

I use a 19 inch Proview at 1024 X 768 with .24 dot pitch. In addition to the size of the monitor, you need to consider the dot pitch. Personally I will not use anything greater than .24. There are some monitors with a .28 that are very good quality. I would never recommend any monitor with a .32 or .34 dot pitch, unless you like seeing blank space between the pixels.

1152x864, though I don't see that in the poll! I use an Iiyama VisionMaster Pro 410 (17" and very flat) at 100Hz and am delighted with it.

Second monitor off the dualhead Matrox graphics card is 15" at 800x600 and is my average-punter-view on the world for testing websites http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I would say that screen resolution is dependant on at least 2 factors.
    a) Monitor size
    b) Personal prefrence

Larger resolutions give you more screen real estate i.e. a greater area in which to work. This can be very useful when working with a program like Flash in particular with it's multiple time lines etc. On the other hand, it would be useless to work at a high resolution if the icons, text etc became too small to view. This is where monitor size plays it's role. It would be useless working at 1200 x 1600 on a 14 inch monitor, but equally useless working on 600 x 800 on a 21 inch monitor.

If you're dissatisfied with 1024 x 1280 on your monitor, revert back to a small screen resolution, or buy a larger monitor to work on 1024 x 1280 resolution. As I say it depends on your own preference and the size of your monitor.

I attach 2 screen grabs (reduced to fit the forum width) to further explain the point. Therefore, I would say that there is no Best screen resolution.

(LCD screens are slightly different than CRT, in as much as LCD's work best at a certain resolution)

    Hope this helps.
