to trace or not to trace

Hi gang,
The IT people at my work want to know if I can "vectorize" the company logo. They have e-mailed me the bitmap file.

My question is, is tracing the bitmap the way to begin? It's a pretty simple logo, but I have never attempted tracing, if indeed that is the way to begin.

It may be the way to start depending if the result is satisfactory. I wouldn't say you have full control. You might get some artifacts at the edges. Depends if you want holes in the objects. I would prefer using the shape editor tool and drawing the shapes if it is relatively simple. Rich

that did such a successful job at cleaning up my Opus logo a little while back. Maybe he will pop in from the heavens and give a little tutorial on how he did that!!

Mike, your logo is not showing up here on the forums, I think you will need to re-upload it.

Paste the bitmap into Xara and enlarge it - you can always shrink the vector image - add new layer - make the original layer non-editable, manually draw the outline of the green shapes. I usually use the shape editor and add nodes at strategic points, then adjust the shape.

The text is easy as the font is Times New Roman,
just type the words and adjust the size.

Thanks to all who responded, especially to dafipp for the offer.

I too went Christine's route, and found it quite easy to do, and completed the project in under an hour. Everyone is pleased with the results, and in fact the company is purchasing a copy of Xara for install on my work 'puter.
