Draw a line, use a brush stroke, use the line in a mould tool, modify the mold = Bug.

You should convert a line to a shape before using an envelope mould.

Looking at your file in Notepad I see you are using Xtreme Pro 5.1.1.9166 CD
You might like to update your program to 5.1.2.1073 CD?

In future it's better that you indicate which version of Xtreme you are referring to.

The reason I don't want to convert the line to shape before applying the mould tool is I just want to modify the curve without effecting the way the stroke flows.

Yes you might be right..
You can use the mould tool on a line with a 'brush' profile/shape if the line does not cross itself. If it crosses itself then it goes funky.
