Seems I saw somrthing like this once, maybe a tutorial,-- any way could someone point me to source of info to do this or perhaps describe the technique?. Thanks.

You can use the blend tool to give a fish-eye lens illusion to a photo of a face.
The result can then be clipped to an egg shape followed by some highlighting to give it some depth.
