    Default Circular Patterns

Could someone give me some input or direction for the creation of circular patterns like the ones in this Istockphoto image.

    http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-ill...el-flowers.php

I need to do something similar for a project tomorrow and was thinking about how I'm going to do it and then it hit me that maybe one of you guys could point me in the right direction with a tip.

Should I be trying to do these types of round patterns with a brush?

Should I create the single shapes in a + and just duplicate/rotate and then rinse/repeat till I get to the end result of a rounded type shape/pattern? How do I keep from getting to much overlap on my very last duplication/rotation?

Did any of that make sense? I'm tired

    What do you guys think?

    thanks

    Christian

Use the 'Quickshape' tool and a create 9 or more point star and shape to suit. Clone and rotate, recolour and set transparency. Repeat as desired.

As is often the case with Xtreme there is more than one way to do this. This method makes use of the control key to constrain the angle of rotation. I put together a quick tutorial.

I haven't thought about Spirograph in a long time. I used to love doing that as a kid.

Of course one can use any shape one wishes

Just to add, the central overlap is controlled by the radius of the curve since the shapes blend along the curve through their centres.

One niggle with this technique is that when blending along closed shapes one gets an extra overlap at the first (last) position. Breaking the curve might correct this but makes the technique a whole lot more complicated.

    A pattern compensated for overlap.

Another way is to slice a pattern in half and do a double flip.

    Thanks for the responses guys!

I am working on my project now, might not get done today, but I'll post the image here when I'm done so you can see how much your tips helped me

    Hi Sadler.

    I have often wondered.

How do you do a blend along a curve?

I hope it not something dead simple?!

    Hi Rik,

It is rather simple, once you know how. See attached image.
