Default Text not fitting to a curve right (or my not understanding it right)

    Hello all,
Usually I get along wonderfully with XX5 but I'm having a problem with text not fitting to a curve the way I want it to.
This seems simple but I guess I'm not doing something right. I started with a circle, converted it to an editable shape, broke it at 2 points, tried to fit my text to the 'top' of the arc and it doesn't center. Not only does it not center but it doesn't seem to align with the arc at all and I was careful about extra spaces in my text. I KNOW this is something basic and I should be ashamed of myself for not grasping but I must ask for help. I've attached an example of what I want and what I'm getting. I hope I explained it sufficiently.

Curious - I don't think you're missing something, but can't repeat your problem at all. I get a perfect result.

    Just to clarify your steps are the same as mine;

    [1] draw circle
    [2] convert to editable shape
    [3] remove fill
[4] use the shape editor to marquee select the two points along the equator and press delete.
[5] select and delete the lower arc
    [6] type text line
[7] marquee select text and arc
[8] press Fit text to curve on the arrange bar
[9] select text and centre justify

    Hi.

I can see what the problem might be.

I think you are typing your text inside a text box, rather than just clicking on the page with the text tool selected and then typing your text.

If I draw a text box, then I get the same result as you, if I then try to fit text to curve.
The text is skewed, just like in your example.

I selected your curve to move it and that showed me the text box!
    See attached picture.

    Hope that helps.

    Rik.

    Yep - good spot Rik.

This could be a bug as the Xtreme help file says:

    Text along a curve
To place text along a curve of your choice:

    1. Create either basic text, text in a column or a text area.

Thanks, I tried what Sledger listed with the same results, then what Rik suggested and that actually worked perfectly. I don't feel so silly now. thanks to both of you.

    Actually I listed:
    [6] type text line
    not text area

But happy that you have it sorted now.
I have reported the possible bug or help file error to Xara.

Yes, I noticed that but didn't realize the significance. Thanks nevertheless.
