During lunch, a few of my students saw me working with Blender and since they were interested, a Blender club was "created" after the school hours (extra curricular activity).

While explaining and showing fundamentals (extruding, grabing, etc. vertices) I got this little model of a spaceman going.

With a few modification, I'll use it to show other techniques and features of Blender.

    Hi Dan,

Great model, and the Blender Club is also great.

What age group are your students? Providing them with extra curricular instruction is a wonderful thing to do.

I got 10 students interested in the club so far. The age of the students varies from 13 to 17.
3 students drop out after the first meeting (It's too hard ! they said....).
We might have two or three more recruits after the X-Mas break.

    Update...
I've spent a good 2 hours "cleaning" up the mesh. Dropped the number of vertices and faces by 800.
Added some color and an armature. Still got to "skin" the armature.

Anyways, here's an update of my little spaceman.

I wasn't satisfied with the mesh after rigging it up.
Got rid of the body (kept the helmet) and started a new mesh.
Spent a couple of hours rigging it up again and the deformation was awfull... Even if I followed the 2.3 guide on character animation, I got bad result.
The mesh was OK... it was the armature.
I borrowed the armature from the guide (on the companion CD), made a few ajustments and started posing the little dude.
You can look at the result for the lower body
(I've yet to redo the mesh for the upper body and the arms).
The animation isn't the highest quality but you can get the general idea.

Cute little guy there Dan. Nice clean up. Now my challenge to you is to make the visor more translucent with a reflection map. Hehehe. I know I can't do it!!
