Gee...

This one definitely has a multistage elliptical/circular fill.
It also probably has a multistage transparency...
Perhaps multiple objects with different multistage elliptical fills, presumably with offset centers, and some kind of transparency, quite possibly a multistage ellipticall as well applied to them results in this effect?

EDIT: No, its not right, i see a lot of little lines in javier Pictures, also its make with the Blend-tool, i use the same technique by the Iphone Border...
EDIT2: The second Picture is make with blends from Circle to Line and so on...

Worth seeing effects is the result, but it is difficult for me the result to determine straight

this is my thought when I first saw this...2 circles with circular fill and the one on the bottom rotated.

My guess is the little mentioned but versatile Contour tool.
Create an shape, give a multi-fill or multi-transparency.
Contour that shape, then give Contour different fill and transparency.
Then mess around with the underlying shape's fill and transparency and then the
Contour's fill and transparency.
You can come up with some amazing effects.

John, Simone, YOU'VE GOT IT .
They are made using just TWO shapes with repeating fills and blended, that's all, if you change, rotate, change color, etc of any of the two shapes you get the effect.
I'm attaching the xar file with some of the shapes I did using it.
It is easy to create really cool effects with few steps.
Thank you very much for sharing your time playing in it.
