Default Re: Why is XXP5 Spiking the CPU Usage?

Gosh that is strange, I've had X1, Xtreme2,3,4 and 5 running on Windows 7 RC since it was available and now I run Xtreme Pro on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on a networked machine without the dramas you're having.

    What do you think?
I think you might start looking for a common denominator outside of Xara Xtreme 5 which could be responsible for causing the poor performance you are having.

I had the same problem, and it seems I've found where's the problem. Try this:

Open the Options window (Utilities -> Options). On the Tune-Ups tab, check off the "Cache groups and layers" checkbox.

Seems this very caching is freezing Xara on some machines.

    Hi S,

I'm definately going to try this - I'll keep you guys up to date to see if this solves the problem.

    Wish me luck!

No crashing yet - but I haven't pushed Xara hard enough yet - I'm too afraid. LOL

Unhappy Re: Why is XXP5 Spiking the CPU Usage?

Just experienced an Internal Program Error.

I was applying a bevel to a shape when the app got all funky on me. I was able to save but here's the weird thing. I had 4 other XAR documents open. When I closed the document that experienced the error - the outline of the bevel I was trying to apply showed up on every other document. I closed the other 4 without issues - but that bevel was on every doc.

Once I closed Xara I received the Internal Error. How's that for weird!

    Is it the video card?

Sofa King please tell us what type of system you are running, Make, model, cpu type, amount of RAM, which version of Windows, exact list of running processes that were running when the error occured. With that information we may be able to guess what was happening to cause the error.

No one outside of Xara support would have any way of knowing what the error message means.

Sofa King my last post was more tongue in cheek than a request for information about your system.

It would be almost impossible to determine why your machine is having issues when other people are not.

If I had your machine on a test bench for a few days for testing there could be several causes for the error messages you are seeing. However, it would be very expensive.

I would recommend uninstalling the program, and disable all antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-adware, and any other security programs.

Reboot your machine and make sure none of the security software has been re-enabled.

Insert your Xtreme Pro 5 CD but do not let the autoplay run the installer.

Instead use Windows Explorer and find the installer and right click and Run as Administrator.

After the installation completes the first time you run XXP5 use the right click and Run as Administrator.

This should ensure that all registry keys are written correctly.

Re-enable all your security software and reboot the machine.

EDIT: I would also disable UAC (User Account Control) at least for the purpose of installing Xtreme. You could re-enable UAC after.
