Bug Re: Why is XXP5 Spiking the CPU Usage?

UGH!!! I was applying a circular fill to a simple circle when I received:

    Internal Program Error 4198.k.no.de

I was able to save but now the app is closed.

    This is ridiculous.

Have you checked your system for malware infections?

Yes we do. Can you think of anything else?

Not without having access to the machine itself I'm afraid.

    Hi All,

I was working a file and I was adjusting the light souce on a 3D object when I received the first of 4 errors:

    Access Violation Exception at 0x004F3682

I tried pressing "Continue" with the hope to save the file when I received this error:

There is insufficient memory to perform this operation. Do want to try to make room by deleting UNDO records?

I pressed ok. Then I received this error when I tried to save:

    Internal program error 1083.k.st.es

I pressed ok when I then received this final error before Xara crashed:

    Access violation exception at 0x007F30C4

4 errors in one shot. Does this info help give anybody any idea what might be going on?

EDIT: Also, our IT guy is convinced this is a problem exclusive only to Xara - an internal application error. But I have Xara installed on my PC at home and I push the application 10 times harder on my personal PC than I do here at work - but I don't get errors at home. I think it's a hardware issue.

EDIT 2: I shut the PC down and rebooted. I went to open the file I was working when Xara crashed when I received this error:

A read error occurred (file does not exist) with the file:
(the file location, blah blah blah)

I can see the file and its contents in the preview mode but it will not open. Any ideas?

I agree. Hardware issue, probably your hard disk drive.
    Backup now.

And you have answered your own question, the IT guy is mistaken.

Preview mode only shows the embedded gif image thumbnail, not the file contents. The thumbnail image is in the file header, this does not indicate the file itself is intact.

    Hi S,

I had a feeling it was hardware. But this is a slippery slope. Right now I'm running Xara without anything else open - no IE, Outlook, etc and I'm going to see how the PC operates.

Also, can you try to open this file? I don't think it will open because something caused the file to become corrupt.

    Thanks

That file is incomplete, suggesting a write error occurred when Xara tried to save.
