Default CMYK 26/100/100/18 is *not* CMYK 26/100/100/18

    Hi,

after working today first time with my new Xara Pro 5 with CMYK Colours for a flyer what shall printed in offset.

When I go to define a colour as CMYK color model (for example CMYK 26/100/10018) Xara shows me a much more brighter coulor (I can compare with a CMYK Colorbook). It makes no great difference to change "show printer oder monitor color". The colour always is not the right. With other CMYK colours it is same.

I also work with Corel X4 and Serif Pageplus X3 and if I go there and enter a CMYK color value it alltimes shows me the right exact color.

What´s wrong? Somewere in forum I did read that Xara converts automatic a RGB to CMYK (for example when I exort to PDF for professional printing).

    Thanks for any help

    Hi,

You might have to enter the color values with a percent sign. So not 26 100 100 18 but 26% 100% 100% 18%.

    Regards,
    Frits

    Hi Frits,

THANKS !!! That works great !

But why the do not write this anywere? (Not in my Xara Pro German manual)

But one question left: Why in all other programs it works fine and why then Xara converts 26% 100% 100% 18% to 66 255 255 46 and does not shows 26% 100% 100% 18% ?

But in any way it works.

But is it true that I shall not mix such CMYK color with a transparency or a shadow? I did read in other post if to want use transparency and/or shadow (and want make PDF fpr offset) I should use only RGB colour model (???)

    TomTom,

I think you have your Color Units set to 0-255 rather than percent.

Click on the Utilitiles Menu > Options > Units. See attached image.

If you have the units set to 0-255 you can always follow the steps Frits mentioned. Or, if you work mostly in CMYK and percentages of color values you can select percent. Be sure to create a new default template with your new settings.

If you use transparencies or shadow Xtreme will use RGB colours. If you want to use CMYK for your export do not use transparencies or shadows.

Hi, Thanks to all who did help for my problem.

It was exactly this that some times before I did (because of RGB) changed fro % to 255 - but did forget this
