Screen flashes white between refreshes.

Good morning, all. I created a website using Xtreme Pro, and I have this inconsistent observation:

The screen briefly flashes a bright white between refreshes or when moving to another page on the site.

It occurs on some PCs, and not on others. It's as if, when moving to another page in slow motion, the page starts out as blank white, then quickly fills in with the dark background. Unless I'm wrong, this seems like a reasonable explanation for the bright white flashes. Still, unacceptable.

1. Why does this occur?
2. Is this an indication of an inefficiently produced site?
3. Is there any way I could prevent this from happening?
4. Does anyone experience the "white flashing" when navigating through my website?
5. Does anyone experience this in their own Xara-produced websites?

Hi Zeedale,

Yes, I get some flashing, using IE8. Can't tell you why it happens but I'm sure the gurus of this site will be able to offer you some answers.

Nothing noticed here in all current version browsers, your site and pages load fast.

Remember that the default browser background is white, until it receives and renders the incoming information all it has it's it's own default white background.
Internet connection speed therefore play a big part. Also important is any security software which might be checking the incoming packets prior to the browser rendering.

I wonder if I produce those exact pages using, let's say, Dreamweaver or raw CSS/HTML, I'd get the same "white flash refresh" phenomenon. Or maybe grouping objects in Xara would help, although that really belongs to another topic: techniques to reduce the web page file size.

I use FF3.5 and no flashing, loads fast.

It should be noted I have a fairly slow machine (by today's standards)....1.5 Mhz AMD. The pages do load quite fast and the flashes I notice are not full page. They are 2/3 the way down the page and about a 1" bar of white all across the page. It's not a serious impedement to the site in my opinion.

A coworker mentioned that the flashing may be tied to IE 6 (or other IE version). He sent me the link below, which might solve that. I haven't implemented it yet, but will try to do so this week.
