Hi Nancy, Keith Floyd was the first of the truly entertaining television chefs in the UK. His obituary is here. He was very much a charming and likeable character on tv but was notorious for his raffish and often drunken behaviour.
The tv programs, especially Floyd in Spain and Floyd's Fjord Fiesta are well worth watching. Here's a short clip of youtube video with him explaining what to do in case of a pan fire when cooking french fries.
