Default a drawing out of style [expression 3]

    In this thread:

    http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...d=1#post326519

Zeb posted up an excellent homage to Paul Coker Jnr, done in xara xtreme.

Bob asked if we have difficulty drawing out of style - so I gave it a go but with Expression 3 which is my digital brush tool of choice

Here is the result, done mostly with the SO3 ['calligraphic point'] brush stroke...

    Steve,

E3 is a little different, but you can add vector strokes and get fill areas.

You would need to unstructure, unite and release.

    Hi Rich

    Thanks for the comments

I deliberately did not fill any areas, because it is my take.

So not an attempt to get that close to the original which I would find very hard I think [digitally], just a demonstration of a trace in my developing digital style...

Absolutely fantastic!!! I love the little guy's expression and your lines are perfect for the style.

of course I don't mind Hans, cool abstract - it is not as easy as it may look to get right, and for it to reduce down cleanly and keep in style

    Welcome back Nancy

thank you both for the kind comments

Thanks for posting this, Steve. I downloaded Expression 3 some time ago, but I'm ashamed to say I haven't really spent much time with it. I'll have to set aside some time for it now.
Nice take on the original, Hans.
    Saludos,
    Bob.

I'm ashamed to say I don't know how to embed a flash in post - attach a 30 secs sketch in real-time - this is how I like to work - you may like to take a glance - very loose very quick

Also ashamed to say I have no optimisation at present so its a bit big - I must get this sorted out

so1/2 brush with pressure sensitivity at 18pix....

make sure you check out the variable width palette for sculpting the stroke shapes on the fly

EDIT - a google search on TG turned up Egg's instructions - http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=24475- thanks Egg

    so now attached....

just need someone to tell me how to do the fancy start button...

ok whilst I am practicing the screen capture to flash thing...

one of the variable width palette in action on a drawn stroke representing an ear - no node selection required, just the stroke itself

with strokes that have built in transparency [eg airbrush] you have the option of changing the transparency in addition to width

nodes can be added to, deleted from, and slid along the palette profile line

Given the software junkie that I am, I still use Expression 3 and of course Xara. Here is a link to get a copy of Expression 3 from Micorsoft Mac or Windows.
