Default Sizing in Xara xtreme driving me nuts!

    Hi folks,
strange one this, ive just started using xara x version 5.

Whenever i try to open an PNG image file i have which is 330 x 100 pixels (shows up fine in windows explorer, paint etc ats 330 x 100), Xara seems to open it with different dimensions.

If i click on the selector tool, then back on the image the sizes show up on the toolbar are 440 x 133 pixels, so you can see the image is larger than normal.
I have tried to export it again as 330 x 100 and i cant seem to do so, it settles for 330 x 101 which obviously looks odd on the page of my website as there is one pixel out.

I just want to open it and edit it and save it all at the original size of 330 x 100 but xara wont let me.

any ideas, im pulling my hair out !

Your source PNG is likely 72dpi rather than the standard Windows 96dpi.
Xtreme is accurately displaying it by the resolution, where Explorer isn't.

Manually sizing via the control bar to 330 x 100 then exporting from Xtreme at 96dpi will work fine.

Sometimes it's quick to view and then reset the dpi to 96 in IrfanView (under Image Information), then save.

Your not going mad. Your original images are being saved at 72 ppi rather than the PC standard 96 ppi, thus the change in dimensions. Open the bitmap gallery and it will show you that it's a 72 ppi image.

You can choose how Xtreme imports bitmaps in Options>>View

Set to 'Import at dpi specified in the file' See if that helps.

ok its not quite over yet, i managed to install Infranview and resize the DPI to 96 save the image and open it again in Xara.
I have also noticed, the image is being opened as a slightly lighter shade than the original file......how do i reset this ?

    Lighter shade than??

I know PaintShopProX2 has it's own screen gamma settings, but Xtreme doesn't.
    What are you comparing to?

well when i save the newly amended logo and pop it back on my local web site on my pc, the shade is slightly lighter than before i made any changes, and i have not adjusted any of the brightness/contrast settings in Xara...bit strange.
