    Default auto fill switch?

4 example; when eclipse or rectangle is made and a color is 'left clicked' a fill, from the fill gallery, is inserted. Don't want the fill gallery insertion, just solid color. I know it's probably a simple switch but it's eluding me silly. I have been left clicking for solid fills now for long time and this hasn't happened. Please help!

Select a color on the color bar and, while holding down the mouse button, drag the color onto the object you want to give a color fill.

Hi wannabee, I'm not entirely sure what it is you are asking, but if you click on the colour editor icon (bottom left of your workspace), you can use it to pick whatever colour you want.

Hi wannabee and welcome to the Forum!

Do you mean that you just want an empty shape filled, or that you want to quickly switch from a bitmap fill to a flat fill?

Thanx welcome wagon for such great response.

either/&. Tried both ways and all I get is bit map 'color change' or bit map fill (the fill is consistent). I now copy and paste older images for new projects

I was optimistic with this option but it was not ticked. Is it possible I'm under virus attack? I had another issue with Xara a week or so ago and I ignored it, seems like Xara has become un-stable.
Again, thanks for all the help.

Sounds like you may have managed to default new objects to a bitmap fill. To get a bitmap fill out of an object, you have to select the object and explicitly assign a flat fill.

Just left-clicking a color on a bitmap-filled object won't do it. Applying a fill color to a bitmap-filled object turns the fill into a contone instead of replacing the fill.

An empty object (one with no fill color assigned) should take the fill color when you select the object and leftclick a color on the color line. If it doesn't, it may actually be a bitmap-filled object. Select the object and the Fill tool, and look at the fill type in the Property bar.

If it says "Bitmap" and the object still looks empty, drag the fill arrows onto the object and see if the fill shows up. Or select "repeating tile" from the dropdown menu beside the fill type.

If that resolves your problem, we can go on to how to default fills (and other attributes).

I made sure object started empty and then applied flat fill with same result - bitmap fill (and there were no bitmap arrows). This was done before your post amoore. Now, even if I try a flat fill it just wont werk fer me. Dang it this is maddening. Is there some evil default switch I don't no about or is Xara going psycho on me?

Steve XaReg would not help in this case. Only the settings XaReg works with are reset to default.
