Question Web page primarily with Text Data in a Columnar Format

I have a 3 column Excel spreadsheet. The 3 columns will easily fit on a 640 wide pix page. However, there are many rows of data which go beyond Xara's page limit size (not sure what that is as the error dialog uses inches only .... hint, hint Xara could you add to the dialog the equivalent in pixels as well?).

I could export to html directly from Excel which has no limit in page length, but has limited color options for the columns. But because everything is one page the user can use the browser's search function (CTRL+F) to search the text. This is important.

I assume that if I have to create 2 or 3 pages in Xara to accomodate the data, then the user can't do one browser-search across the 3 published pages. Correct?

I'd really like to use Xara to add simple, but nice looking Coloumn shading behind the data and add a couple of links and popups, but I need to enable the user to brower-search the entire set of data without manually navigating from page to page.

Any suggestions?????? Examples would be appreciated.

    Regards, John

Overcoming the (silly) page size limits imposed by Xara can be achieved if you have CorelDraw.
Create the page size in CorelDraw (you will need to add at least one object to the page) and then export to PDF.

Import this PDF to Xtreme, and you have your page length.
Of course, there won't be Xara support for any onset of weirdness with such page sizes.

John what was the inches limit mentioned in the error dialog you encountered?

Windows is normally 96 pixels per inch.

Bill I believe John is referring to the (yawn) ongoing page-size-limit from days of old in Xara Xtreme.

A limit should be based only system resources.
Other common apps seem to manage fine.

I've never seen that dialog. But then again I've never tried making a long page before either.

Yes, Bill. Exactly what Steve posted above. Registry hack maybe?

Steve, got CorelDRAW X4 (used it since v2 but not much since Xara Xpro). I'll try the pdf page a try. Did you try CMX export from CDraw?

    =================================

By the way, in case newbies are out there, if you copy the columns of text in Excel to the clipboard and then paste into Xara as RichText, then it will honor Xara's tabstops and Excel's columns are maintained and can be adjusted using the tab stops in the Ruler Bar.

hehe - that's the first thing I looked for back when I started with version 3 and came across the restriction.

I may have tried CMX, can't recall.
I might have ended up using PDF for a reason though

    PDF didn't work.

Imported with units reverting to cm and when units changed to Pixels it maxed out at 3200. I think it just scaled everything down proprotionatly to meet Xara's limit.

Well it does work because I have used it many many times

But you're right that the default units are cm and you cannot make changes to the page units once it is opened in Xtreme (which was fine for our usage as we were working with vehicle and shop signs.)

It's a compromise, but it works when you need the page size to exceed Xara's crippling.

i created a page 700 px x 8800 px, filled it with 3 columns of 10pt text and a multicoloured background and exported it to HTML, a total of 8865 words

when I did a print preview it said that would create 8 pages of A4

i can see that you might want more than 8 pages, but it'll do for me
