Export a BMP or JPG with a transparent background?

Here's a Photoshop tutorial for creating 32bit .bmp with transparency, from Axialis.


I don't have PS on this machine, so I'd be interested if anyone can try it out and report their results?

made a .bmp with alpha channel transparency ok in PShop Steve


sshot 1 shows it open in axialis iconworkshop with transparent background

sshot 2 shows PShop channels - the transparency does not render in PShop and no alpha when imported into xtreme

No it wouldn't, because Xtreme doesn't support 32bit .bmp

yes I know that, but worth mentioning for posterity as they say

I knew you could do this with TGA in PShop - but never even crossed my mind to try BMP

Pity it is still stuck in the what you see is not what you get mode of old, but useful to know

Why not export it as PNG

Its FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (Version 5) by Rockwell Automation.

Using FactoryTalk in the image properties select the background color as "transparent" - when you do that the black parts of your image will be rendered as transparent. - FactoryTalk doesn't support alpha channel transparency.
