Thread: Vextractor

    Default Vextractor

Anyone who have any experience with Vextractor?

Though Xara's tracer is pretty good, I've been looking for a better one. So when I got an offer today for Vextractor (51% off today only):

    http://daily-deals.iconico.com/software/vextractor-451/

which I hadn't heard about before, I had to check it out. It seems to be pretty good for simple drawings, here's a sample together with a sample from Xara's tracer. It also generates control points so you can edit it, as you can see on the next picture.

Smoothing factor, Color tolerance and Gradient Threshold were all set to 0 (zero) in this case.

I'd like to hear som opinions, preferably from some who have some more experience with this program. Is it worth spending those $50 on it?

Indeed, I always plump for Inkscape's tracer for jobs I can't trace by hand quickly in Xtreme. Xtreme's tracer can be used for some interesting ‘artistic’ effects, but as a raw path-tracer it's of little use.

The demo version of this tool is very poor as it restricts the file size! If the actual programme is as bad as this it is not worth the money as I downloaded it yesterday.

Inkscape is good for my scanned in line drawings but pretty poor for full colour reproduction (which is where Xtreme excels).

I don't know if the file size affects the samples I've made, but I don't think so. Anyway, having a few hours to test a program is not much, so I skipped it. Maybe I'll test it some more and get it next time if it's worth it (the Iconico discounts are usually repeated every 6 months).

Yes - wonder if there is a program that does it all "perfectly".

I have, and the results do appear to be remarkably accurate, but their pricing model doesn't warrant me using their service when I already have three Bitmap Trace applications on my computer. Their B/W trace was comparable to the excellent results I get with Inkscape.
