Difference between Xtreme Pro 4 and Web Designer?

Hi folks,

As I'm still fairly new to working with graphics, I have this question:
Just a couple of days ago decided to buy Xtreme Pro 4.
Also have a trial copy of Web Designer on my machine.

Is there any place stating the 'real' differences between these 2?
I ended up buying XP4 with the idea this is the flagship, so it will be able to do what the other (different) lower priced progs can do.
Indeed at XP4 can deliver html content, but, I can not find the Designs gallery anywhere?
Is there any way to get these into XP4? Or are these really separate?

What are the other (if any) differences between XP(4) and Web Designer?

Hi Erwin,

Web Designer is a newer application than Xtreme 4. It builds on the web site creation features that first appeared in Xtreme 4. This makes Web Designer a better option if your primary interest is in creating web site.

If your primary interest is in vector graphics for use on the web and in print then Xtreme 4 is better suited for that purpose.

I guess that means buying both...:-(
As my intrest lies in both...

Any more 'specific' differences?
Reason I ask, is I guess I'll run into the same question regarding Menu Maker...
You can create menu's with XP4, and with WD, and with Menu Maker...
Not clear at all where the 'real' differences are.

Erwin there are many subtle differences. A book could be written about them all.

I'm no expert because Web Designer has only been available since March 2009. Some of the most obvious difference are all I've had time to discover. I'm sure the Xara developers could name many that I have yet to find by using the program.

Web Designer has been stripped of some of the tools and options that would not necessarily but used for creating web pages. There are other features and options that have been added to Web Designer that do not exist in Xtreme 4. The FTP options and the Web Properties dialog are the most obvious of them. Placeholders are new in Web Designer and a very powerful addition that adds funtionality not possible in Xtreme 4.

A visual comparison of the Tools and Options dialog of the two programs may help.

Difference between Xtreme Pro 4 and Web Designer are very subtle because they share many common features. They both have great flexibility and only limit you to your imagination.

Menu Maker is an entirely different type of application that targets menu creation. You can select a template for the graphics and choose colour and font but little else. An excellent program for what it is designed to create but you cannot use it for the types of projects Xtreme and Web Designer are designed for.


The best way to find out the difference is to download the trial versions and give them a workout for yourself. http://www.xara.com

Asking for specific differences will get different answers from different people as we all perceive things in our own particular way.

I guess I'll just have to exercise more patience and climb the learning curve :-)
Trying to dig through the extremely interesting Xara Xone tutorials...
