Shortcuts not working anymore

For over a week now my shortcuts for combing shapes don't work anymore. All the other shortcuts work fine. I checked the shortcuts menu and CTRL1, CTRL2, CTRL3 and CTRL4 are still there but don't work anymore.
This is very annoying because I use them all the time. Anyone an idea how to solve this?

Jolande which version of Xtreme are you using? The Pro versions have a utility to configure the shortcuts.

If you are using a standard version have you done a reboot?

I'm using XaraX Pro 4.0.1.5601.
And yes I restarted my laptop this morning but no difference.
It's really weird because all other shortcuts are just working fine.

Jolande have you tried using the Reset All button on the Customize key short-cuts utility?

Yes, I just did and restarted Xara, but still the same.
Maybe I'll reinstall Xara, if nothing other works.

Before taking the drastic action of re-installing try this:

Open the key shortcuts dialog, choose an action that doesn't yet have a shortcut assigned to it and press Ctrl+1. What happens? Does the display show "Ctrl+1" or some other description? If it shows something other than "Ctrl+1" then almost certainly your keyboard input setting has changed.

Windows (Vista) seems to have a bug/feature where it will randomly swap between keyboard input settings. If you can see a little keyboard icon on your taskbar click it and check on the popup menu that appears whether the input setting is the one you expect. (Maybe it's changed from Dutch to English or vice versa???)

If I assign CTRL+1 to an action That hasn't a shortcut then immediately it changes back to "none". I removed the shortcut from the "add shapes" action but the same thing happens, it changes to none.
I tried other shortcuts but if I delete a shortcut there and add the shortcut again then it's going well.
I'm puzzled......

What happens when you are not working in Xara and you hit CTRL + 1? Anything? If I am in Firefox it changes to another oipen Tab, but in Xara it does the correct thing. Just wondering if Windows or another application has stolen your CTRL + 1. I can't think of anything else really, but then I'm not a computer expert.

Well, I hope you get it sorted one way or another very soon.

If I'm in Firefox, nothing happens. Also CTRL2, CTRL3 and CTRL4 don't give any reaction.

Jolande is it possible you have a dead control key?

One of the places I worked desktop support some of the keyboards developed a dead control key on the left end of the keyboard.

That was the control key everyone would used to unlock their computer (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) when they returned to it. Security settings would lock the machine after 5 minutes of idle time.

Have you tried using the other control key?
