That's a clever way of doing it Harry

The only thing I would disagree with is the 'messing about' with the mesh tool in illustrator

The illustrator mesh tool is being used here as a 'mould tool' - its not difficult to use, and very precise, you just need to practice

A mould tool that produces effects like this members here have been crying out for xara to implement for ages...

I am not a great lover for the Mesh Tool in Illustrator but I have to agree with you here Steve! more control over the Mould Tool would be great and if that also had the ability to be used as a colouring Mesh Tool even better. We need more VECTOR TOOLS in the next version not just a spell checker and a WebDesigner interface. Sorry to shout here.

Never a shortage of great tips and techniques here.

My first thought after looking at the tutorial was the Mould Tool. Glad some of you beat me to it and saved me the work.

    Thanks, Steve.

I'd also need to buy some version of Illustrator . I would be more than willing to give it the ol' college try, though.

Cheers Brad, it's been a fun thread. I created mine by creating the rectangular coloured rectangles. Apply a Live Effect (AS Crumple) and then applying a mould. Clone and alter the mould as often as you want to get the ribbon effect you're after. Add some high/low lights to add depth.

Here's a xar to pull apart.
