Hi,
I came across the following effect to produce a 3d wavy ribbon. Is it possible to recreate in Xara.

Hello Bradj2
I'm almost certain you could reproduce that using a Brush and then using the Mould tool.
The effect in that Tutorial was created using the Illustrator Mesh tool. It all looks very easy but in my experience (and that of other people, apparently) it is a steep learning curve. I think the problem is that few people other than professional designers would use the Mesh tool more than once or twice a year. Hardly surprising then that people find it a difficult tool.
Oh, and Welcome to the Forum
Thanks for chiming in Brad.
Here's my go at it. Not bad for 5 minutes of work and no meshes to fool around with. Two 42 pix lines, apply a 6 step blend, convert to shapes, add a shape to cut the top of the ribbon to size, add a rectangle give it a linear blend, send it to the back then make it nice and tidy with a clipview operation.
I'm sure others will come up with some alternative methods for producing the same effect. Just you wait and see.
Why not give it a try yourself,
HayTay
That is BRILLIANT! I am still pretty new to Xara so I will have a go. The instructions sound a bit complex...if you could break it down into more managable steps with a few pics, I would greatly appreciate it!
Haytay your effect is great.
I used a custom brush made using a rectangle filled with stepped colors in the second image I applied a preassure setting
Best regards
Javier
Nice one, jvila! I'll have to play around with brushes more. I rarely ever think to try them.
If you're willing, I'll give it a shot. Please give the following mini-tutorial a try. I hope I didn't miss a step or two. After using XX4 for a while you start to do the simple things automatically and forget to include them in the instructions. If you get lost, try again (Undo (Ctrl-Z) is your friend . If you need clarification just ask and someone here will get back to you with an answer.
Good luck,
HayTay
.
Of course, sometimes Xara just does it better

Nice Egg. Actually looks like a close-up of a multi-coloured pencil shaving
But does the pencil draw stripes?
An imaginary cover for a real album.

How about some shiny sparkly Xara ribbon
