    Default Why No PM?

I have a few forums I like to follow, and most allow PMs. Is there a reason this one doesn't allow them? Just wondering

Talkgraphics allows PM after a grace period.

We find that people participate and join in discussions more readily if PMs are no available initially.

Private Messaging system is available to all members once they reach a post count which exceeds 35.
So, you're almost ½ way towards earning the PM priviledges

Chief -- further to what's been written, I note that the idea is that new members be encouraged to participate in the forums rather than default to sending a PM to ask a question. Before we had the delay many new members would never post but just ask their questions in PM's. The impact was many newbie type questions were not being addressed in the forums so new members weren't finding them. It was a bit of a self-perpetuating 'catch 22'.

We hope all new members will feel comfortable asking any question.

    Regards, Ross

A Private Message Ted. Once you achieve (25?) posts you'll be able to contact other members via PM's.

Sledger, you were the one I was going to PM anyway. You sent me a note and I couldn't respond to it. At least I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to be able to respond to it

Was just going to apologize for breaking the forum rules on a sig. Not my intent. I like the forum, and have been a CDR user for about 15 years. Just hadn't previously looked for a community of other users before.

    Thanks everybody for the input.
