Default Lines in XaraExtreme 4 e version

Can someone please tell me how to draw a straight line in Xara Extreme and then make it wider. The only way I can get a straight line is using the pen tool but when I try to do something with the line like extrude, the line disappears. I would also like to make it look round.

    Use the shape editor tool.

Click once for the start and click again on the end location. If you want it to be constrained to an angle (or horizontal or vertical) press CTRL whilst clicking.

It can be thickened using the "Set line width" dropdown.

To make it look round you can add shadows, to suit.

Thanks, I can now get a wide line, but shadows only put a shadow behind it.

Here's how I think I would do it:
    1. Draw a line using the Shape Editor or the Pen Tool
    2. Open the “Line” gallery
    3. At the top of it select “Round join” and “Round cap”
    4. Click Apply
    5. Click the "Bevel" tool
    6. Drag the red arrow out and diagonal (stop when you’re happy with the width)
    7. Select the shape you now have and ensure the Line colour and Fill colour are the same

Sorry, when I said shadows, I actually meant shades and highlights and tones etc. an example is a typical gel button ..... If you go to: Clipart gallery > Example Xtreme Drawings 1 > Gel buttons .... There is a wonderful tutorial as Clipart, that will help you to make the shape look like it has depth.

Thanks steve j and Keith. I guess it will take me a while to learn what everything is, however it's a good way to stave off dementia.
