Default Xtreme (Version 2) and Win 7

    Hi Folks;

Running Xtreme (V2) in Windows 7 (Build 7100) and having 2 problems.

    1. "Internal Program Error 717.w.re.ry
    2. very clunky font on rulers

I am set up to dual boot so this is more of a "FOR YOUR INFORMATION" than cry for help. Guess I'll be doing my serious work in my XP configuration and look for better things ahead.

Well kudos for giving it a try, but I woulnd't really expect version 2 to be at all compatible with W7.

However, if you didn't already - I would try this:

    • Remove X2
    • Remove HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XaraXtreme caution advised
    • Right-click the X2 installer and choose 'Properties>>Compatibility>>Run this program in compatibility mode for: 'WindowsXP Sp2'
    • Run the setup
    • From the desktop shortcut, right-click and choose 'Run as Administrator'

The font issue may be due to a system font present in XP which is no longer used in W7.

    Then report back here

    Done and done.

I no longer get an "Internal Program Error", but the ruler font problem remains. Must be someway to re-direct internal program fonts.

I haven't actually tried producing any work yet. . .

I have to say that the font used in version 2 and version 4 look to be identical.
Have you by chance set screenscaling to other than Windows default (96dpi)?
Setting to anything other than 96dpi will cause funky results.

Xara installer places a special font for the toolbars in the Windows/fonts folder. The file name is XaraFont.fon although if you are looking in the Windows Fonts folder using Vista or Window 7 you will most likely see Xara Studio.

When I had a PC setup with the Windows 7 Beta I installed versions Xara X, X¹, Xtreme, Xtreme 2, Xtreme Pro 3.2, and Xtreme Pro 4.0 without any problems and all ran without errors.

For Xara X I used Windows 2000 compatibility to get a good install. Xtreme, Xtreme 2, and Xtreme Pro 3.2 needed XP compatibility mode. Xtreme Pro 4.0 works best using Vista compatibility mode.

My Windows fonts were set to 125%. Changing this to 100% (default) has corrected the distorted Xara Font, but now I have to find my glasses every time I want to do anything. Ahh well. . .

    :-)

Funny how age works. Almost a year after I posted my initial query, I finally had the nerve (and money) to upgrade to the real Windows 7 (as compared to the release candidate) from XP. I ran into some Xtreme install problems and came here to find a solution. The solution from then worked just as well today.

I must upgrade my Xtreme 2 one of these days.

    Cheers
