Hi, all
Can someone make one test...
In xara X give on what you object want, colors in CMYK in some exact percentages...
Export eps, and open & rasterize in photoshop, what happened with colors?
Why is this hard color change?
From Xara sayed me that this is can't be true...
But is it...

I use photoshop 6 FR
on PIII, Win 98SE, 128Mb RAM

Sounds like more proof of what I've always said: stay away from Xara's EPS format. They have revamped it for XX, they claim, and still . . .

The only safe thing is to export RGB TIFF and then do your CMYK'ing in Photoshop. Any necessary pure-vector elements can be added in PS or, as I prefer, added as a vector-EPS on top of the CMYK TIFF in a page layout program. A totally troublefree procedure.

I wish Xara would drop the EPS export altogether - it just causes mischief and may give people the impression that XX is "unreliable" as a serious tool. Notice the recent posting called: "Colour Separation In Xara-X is Unprofessional" Yes it is. We all know that XX is great for what it does - but that is NOT four-color print production. Including an EPS export - as well as a CRUDE separation function (with no GCR/UCR controls!) misleads people, thinking it IS suited for four-color print production.

Think that problem with EPS is in the Export program....
Nevermind where will be plased eps in photoshop directly or in pagelayout software...
The problem is in the eps.... colors are not the same out of Xara....

In xara 2 pre-press was not bad, espesialy in blue-green gamma.... personal experience!

In Xara2 I export as 300dpi uncompressed jpg in rgb (NOT 'printer preview') to photoshop for cmyk conversion; much better colour fidelity for me and despite the old-wives-tale about jpegs, no annoying artefacts. Havent tried it in XaraX yet but I'll do the same thing.

Hi Minimiro,
i had also problems with Color separations. EPS- export dues not work well. I made a lot of test to come arround with the problem.

Here is what works good for me:

- Export your work as tiff (Screen colors in off)
- Import it to Photoshop
- Dulicate the image and convert to Grayscale
- Adjust the the Grayscale copy in Adjust/Curves
and adjust the curve somewhat like:
Input 85 %
Output 25 % (You have to play with it)
this gives you a little bit of black.
- Now split the RGB Channels apart.
- Merge now all 4 Channels together like this:
Cyan - R.tif
Magenta - G.tif
Yellow - B.tif
Black - Grayscale copy
Now you have exact color values from CMY.
This is not a GCR or UCR Separation, but it
works.
If anyone has a better solution,
please let me know.

Regards

minimiro,

try the following:

- draw some rectangles in Xara-X
- give them different colors in exact CMYK percentages
- activate Window - Show Pinter Colors
- export as Xara EPS, automatic
- open in Photoshop (6) as CMYK
- check the colors with the eyedropper tool

This way works perfect for me an I get the same colors that I defined before ...

My problem is, that I can't export the exact RGB-values over the Xara-EPS format.
But for webdesign, I need my pics in RGB !!!

And I really don't understand, why this happens, but it always did since 1.0.

Thankfully, since XX has now the ability for Shadows and at least crude bevels, there is not very much need to export to Photoshop anymore.

Wolfgang
