vertical text

I thought there was a thread about this before but darned if i can find it. Anyway what I was wondering was if there was any way you could change the text orientation like in my example below with out having to convert to editable shapes? So it could still be edited as text?

Rather than pressing Return at the end of each line, you could create a text column so narrow that only one character can fit on each line:

To type a column of text:

1. Select the Text Tool.
2. Move the mouse pointer where you want the column to start.
3. Drag right to create a horizontal line the width of the column. This red line just shows you the width of the column. It is never printed.
4. Type in the text. You don't need to press "Enter" at the end of a line. When the text reaches the edge of the column, it automatically flows onto a new line.

You can read more in Xara's help file, just press Help -> Xtreme Help, and then in the Contents tab click Text Handling -> Text in a column

ps - After selecting the text tool, drag a text rectangle that is narrower than it is high to recreate the effect in the attached file.

Thanks guys, I don't know why it didn't occur to me to simply drag the text rectangle until it was narrow enough to put each letter on a separate line.

Or simply draw a textbox add your text,maybe justify and drag the handles,
while in text-tool mode,to the left.

Welcome to the forum. I found this tutorial on my hard drive. I think it is one of Gary's from the Xara Xone, but I couldn't find it in the alphabetical index under Aqua Buttons.
I adapted the tutorial to suit a vertical button. This may be what you want.
