New to Xara Web Designer (some questions)

I'm really mystified about this. I published the standard (unmodified) sample (it was page 2 of the Beta template) but that doesn't exhibit the crashing problem, so it's obviously something to do with my changes. Here's how I changed the original sample:-

1) Resized the page a bit, to fit my own logos.
2) Removed the top row of buttons.
3) Replaced the standard logos with my own.
4) Removed the top 2 buttons from the left-hand set.
5) Made the 3rd button (which is now the top button) link to a pre-existing page.
6) Changed a few colours.
7) Removed a small hyperlink text (that was linking to Xara.com).

Can anyone see anything there that could result in the strange crashing problem? If not I guess I'll have to do each stage, one at a time until the problem resurfaces.

None of these changes seems dangerous. Can you show us your web file?

Thanks - I've attached the web file but not the generated index.htm ('.htm' isn't accepted as a valid extension). I could zip it up though, if that's helpful. The actual site is here.

Strange. Your page passes W3C validation. I have not noticed any significant changes comparing to the template which you say is working well. Same scripts are used to the same extent.

Yes, but it isn't quite that simple. I have two PC's both running IE6/SP2. One is running the standard installation but on the second one I've disabled a few settings under Tools->Options->Advanced (mostly to turn off animations). Also, this second system doesn't have Flash installed. It's this second system that exhibits the problem.

I must admit, it's very rare for IE6 to do this on either system and I've never come across any other web stie that brings down the whole PC so repeatably.

Please try to remove the png.js file (located in the index_htm_files folder), then open the page again and tell what you see.

Good suggestion. It now looks and works fine - except that one bit of text ("AAF support for Indamixx and Ardour") has a grey background instead of the white / transparent one. Crashing seems to be fixed though.

Ok. Open your design in WD, select your top left logo ("Creative post production"), open web properties dialog (Ctrl+Shift+W), go to "Image" tab, select JPEG option and click Apply. Export the page and try to open it.

Thanks John, that seems to have fixed the problem. Was it my fault or a problem with the s/ware?
