    Default Shiny area creation

This is something that I have alot of trouble with when I'm creating images. I am not sure how to make spectral shine on some surfaces. I'd like to know how many different and better ways there are to do this.

The exampe I was trying to recreate was paint dollop in an Ace Hardware advert. Just trying to see if I could do it like they showed. I couldn't. Can you? I threw the example out before I could show you so you'll have to wing it.
I did not try a blend but would like to see if it could be done. Below is what I've made. The 3 layer example comes closest to what the paint dollop looked like but the white area is just a bit too soft looking. Can you show me a way to crispen it up?

Edit: I should mention that the 3 layer example has a bit too much white showing as well. The light source should be more like on the bevel, even a little less.

I used a base shape with an overlay of white and black sliced shapes with transparencies and feathering.
The base shape was used for the final clipview.

Steve, can you constrain the direction of the transparency handles when you are applying a transparency? I always eyeball and those handle are touchy. It would be great if I could make it stay perpendicular or stay at the angle I start creating at.

Nancy hold down a Control Key to constrain the direction you can drag the mouse.

Thanks Angelize, that's a great illustration.

So the ctrl key works with most tools to constrain. Thanks.
