Explorer vs Firefox - loading speed

I have just uploaded my first XWD site (www.daanweb.com). Checking it with Firefox, it just looked great . But, when I checked it with Explorer, it took ages to load - which is really upsetting, because this is my professional website and many people still use Explorer. Help? Is there any (simple) thing I can do about this?
(I know there is a previous thread on slow loading, but this is about the exact same website loading differently with different browsers.)

I have comparable speed opening this site in IE7, FF3 and Opera. About 2-3 seconds.
Perhaps you have many tabs opened in IE? This can slow it down.

I tried your URL in all current browsers and only Opera showed a little lag, though nothing I'd be concerned with.
Otherwise they all loaded your site in about 3 seconds here..

You may have already done so, but if not I'd recommend emptying your cache in FF and IE before running your own tests however.

Running IE8 and it loaded (at work) in 1 second.

Well it opened immediately here, in wonderfull (xs4all) yellow.

Thank you Sledger, John and Glenn, oh and Ankhor,
I still had IE6 running (not my default browser). Now that I have upgraded to IE7 my site loads like a charm. (I'm sooo glad I joined the forum.) All I have to do now is hope that my 'prospects' aren't all dinosaurs like me .

Sandra, I have checked your site with IE6. It loaded in approximately 3 seconds and works well.
So, the problem you had was specific to you system or explorer setup, settings, and general "health".
While this can be also true for some of your "dinosaur" clients, this is definitely not a rule.
