As great as X1 is, one thing keeps bugging me:

I placed the guides layer to the background layers and saved this file as a new template to start with.

But everytime I start X1 or everytime I open a new drawing, the damn guides layer appears in the foreground layers!

Anyone around who found or will find a solution? What am I doing wrong? I can't work with guides in the foreground...

It is new feature of X1 - Guides layer is created ontop.
Unfortunately, I think it is implemented
not so clear. In old documents where
my guides was hidden, opening them in
X1, guides suddenly appears. I think X1 should
differ old and new files to display they correctly.
    Regards, Dmitry.

    Hi Jens,

I am pretty sure Charles asked the guys here in the forum if they would rather the guides be in front or in back and the loudest majority said the front. So... guides are now defaulted to be above everything, not behind.

    Dmitry, John,

well, your statements are correct, but when I save a template with guides in the back it should be fixed there for a very good reason. Ok, the template feature remembers any position in the layer stack in front, but pulls back all guides from the background layers to the foreground layers. This is a minor bug Charles already confirmed this morning.

So let's wait and see - the next update will fix it. I just thought it might be a simple tweak in the registry...

    Agree with Jens.

The guides should stay where you put them.

Nice though it is to see the guides in front, it becomes a bother when trying to select something under a guide unless you make the guides non-editable, which works but which is a big pain.

I too agree with Jens. While I VERY happy to have my guides set to the front as default there should be an option for setting them "to front" or "to back" depending on the person or persons desired template!!

Sheesh, we complained when the guides where in back, now we complain when they are in front. We just can't be pleased can we. Oh well... I guess we should put this bug really high on the priorty list... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

right beside the option of having the old icons... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Now now John-boy http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I can understand why some folks would prefer the guides to the back but that would not be me!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
