    Default real to virtual

    Hi,

I am currently trying to create a new logo for use on paper, business cards and the web.
My logo is a maple leaf which I use for almost 15 years now.

Attached you can see the digital versions I used so far. The ones in the upper row are the ones used already. The current one is the photograph of a real leaf my daughter found in front of the house.

Idea for the new logo is one showing both the real as well as a digital version which proves more difficult than I imagined. Well, personally I think that the last one is the only one worth mentioning but I feel that something is missing .... Regarding the digital half I tried to create something comic style but failed. Looks like I can only think technical ...

If anybody has an idea how to present the change from real to virtual better within that single leaf I would be happy to read about it.

If you want to see the current stuff around the leaf you can look at www.herling.com.

    Thanks,
    Juergen

Maple leaves are best known for autumn so perhaps do something of the leaves falling but as they fall from the top to the bottom they become pixels.

Alternatively, you can have a single leaf and and have pixels stripping off it like they are being peeled off by a greater force. eg black hole sucking in clouds.

I can come up with an example of this later

    Thanks for the ideas,
I cut the right half in small blocks but must admit I have no real idea what to do with them to get a pixel effect but to keep the leaf a leaf.

I do not feel that this qualifies as a new logo for some years.

    Thanks,
    Juergen

Here is what I came up with.

Used a blur effect to achieve depth of field like a photo. A grid was placed in and warped with the envelope function to achieve some curve. Used a dynamic style font.

    Took me about 30mins

    Idefriginit,

Very nice job on the logo re-do. I like it a lot.

While working on something else recently, I needed to achieve the effect of going from a photo to a pixelated version of the same image. While searching on TG I came across your thread and thought that it may have some relevance on what you stated you'd like to achieve for a newer version of your logo. You can see my results and additional information in this thread started by Remi, HowTo: Mosaic effect with Xara Xtreme.

    Idefriginit,

thanks for your version. In 30 min I cannot create anything at all ...
I like the whirling leaves a lot. Just as a logo I try to create a single leaf though.

    HayTay,

about 30min ago I read about the Pixelate method in the other thread and will try that out myself. So far all my tries have one thing in common. I create a leaf that consists of 2 different halves but most certainly does not qualify as a logo.
I feel that the results are too complicated to be used on paper, weblogo and wherever a logo is used.

Here my current attempts which are the finished versions of what I started in first post.

perhaps the execution of the idea is not the problem and that the style is out of fashion? Making you feel as though it can not be how you want it as you are comparing against other inspiration. It is times like these when you should try a whole new approach

I was thinking perhaps something like this. Although it would be good to have some of the blocks blank.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

You are right. Here is a new approach.
Any opinions on these 3 ? If this should be the way to go I personally would vote for no. 3. Not regarding the color, but the simplicity.

    Thanks,
    Juergen
