    Default CS4 Tabs are giving me the creeps!

    Hi everybody,

    ever since I switched to Photoshop CS4 I regret to have done so.
    I bought every version since 5.0, because I am working with it on a daily basis and with every new version came features that were worth the upgrade price. For me at least ...

    CS4 is the first version that I wish I had not bought. Especially since for the first time I switched to Extended, only to find that the "3D-functions" are not for me. But that's another story ...

    That said, here's my real problem:
    I HATE the new tabs and want to have every image in it's own, floating window like in every version before.

    Gladly, the folks at Adobe thought of an option "Open documents as Tabs".
    I unchecked it and when I now open a new image via the "Open..." dialog, it's floating like it used to. Hooray!

    Alas, if I open that very same image via drag 'n' drop, it's still opened in a tab regardless of the above setting.

    This is REALLY annoying, because unchecking the tabs-option should make it clear that I don't want them!
    Never!
    Never Never !!

    So first off, can anybody confirm that the same thing happens for them as well (preferably using Vista Home Extended).

    Second off, if this is how it is, has anybody found a way to get rid of this silly tab-behaviour once and for all ??

    Any help is appreciated!

    Im not using CS4 yet, but i find that if you getting annoyed by it, think about whether the tools and extra features which prompted you to upgrade and make your workflow easier out weighs the annoyance of something you may just get used to and perhaps see the merit in?

    You cant live in CS3 forever, as there will be continual upgrades and the competition will have the upperhand in workflow.

    I agree that CS4 is the worst upgrade. I have also found that the user saved workspaces change for no good reason, I have a memory problem that comes into play after working on 30 or so images (not at the same time) that requires a restart to free up memory. Some of the new features work inadequately. The best thing is the new ACR but that could have been a low cost upgrade for CS3 users.

    @Idefriginit
    Thanks ... but not really helping

    @RTW1
    Yeah, I wish I had not bought it too ...
    I still have CS3, but then I think why would I go on using it after spending EUR 400,-- on the upgrade (to CS4 Extended)
    It has it's good sides too, but it's the most buggy PS-release ever.

    But maybe I can help you with the workspace-problem.
    I was always wondering, why after restarting my workspace had changed.
    Then I checked "Remember Panel Locations" under Preferences -> Interface.

    And - hey presto - I get my own workspace on startup every time!

    Hi Wolfgang

    If you drag and drop onto the bar it should open as a floating window rather than a tab - does for me

    [I am using XP home]

    YES Steve,

    that does the trick!
    I am so used to dragging to the grey document area that I did not even think this would make a difference.

    But it works perfectly, also on Vista.

    Problem solved, TG rules again !

    Thanks
